COCKLES Training in Histology
IFremer, La Tremblade, France
20-24 May 2019
During this week, I took part in a workshop on the identification of the main pathogens and parasites of cockles. We examined cockle tissue for the presence of macroparasites, screened slides for microparasites by histology and learned how to make our own slides. I have learned so much in this crash course! Not really a nice idea, but cockles have so many different parasites! Its also very interesting to recognize the different cockle tissues under the microscope. Many thanks to the people of the EU Reference Laboratory for mollusc diseases situated at Ifremer in La Tremblade (France) and Station Marine d’Arcachon (France).
